Observance Days

 

EWEI believes in the power of advocacy and collective action to achieve sustainable change and development. Every year we mark certain days as a means of raising awareness about different issues and provide a means for citizens to advocate to and engage with stakeholders. These Observance Days are marked with focus on various themes on which stakeholder action is required.

7th April 2014 Awareness visit to Hanyi Banki Community on the threat posed by vectors (mosquitoes) and vector borne disease (especially malaria) and to enlighten the community women to take action to protect themselves. 5 June World Environment Day

5th June 2012 EWEI Educational Subsidy Programme Beneficiaries mark World Environment Day taking action their school through the Hand Washing and Sanitation Campaign, in two public schools.  9 toilets were washed in GGSS Independence Way Senior while 8 toilets were washed in GGSS Doka. 15 classrooms were also thoroughly cleaned at GGSS Independence Way. 5th June 2014 Field Visit to Firoro Dam Angwan Boro  to speak with women on floods and natural disasters and what roe women can play in the  prevention and management of such disasters. 21 September International Day of Peace

21st September 2011 Marked in collaboration with its international partner Generations For Peace through a one day Advocacy event for members of the media, civil society, religious group, women, youth groups and government officials from four local government areas in Kaduna State. 11 October International Day of the Girl Child

15th October 2012 IDGC Voice Out. The day promoted girls’ rights and highlighted gender inequalities that remain between girls and boys. The Theme for the first ever observance of this day was “Ending Child Marriage” EWEI marked the day with a video montage of girls age 15-17 years speaking out on what they believe their rights are. 11th October 2013 Innovating for Girls’ Education was  the theme for 2013 and the day was marked with female students of Government Technical School, Malali, Kaduna. The day provide a platform to highlight examples of ongoing works and achievements, as well as raise awareness of the importance of innovation in advancing girls’ education and promoting learning and empowerment. 15 October International Day of the Rural Woman

15th October 2012 Field visit to Goddy farms Narayi Kaduna. The one day visit for women from Sabo community focused on fish farming, rearing and cultivation. The Farm Director Mr. Godwin Manku taught the women how to rear fish to generate income, explaining how they can easily start up a fish farm with a very small earthen pond stocked up with a hundred fingerlings and feed them with tiny fish for 4 months, after which they can be harvested for sale. Goddy Farms Narayi, Kaduna, Nigeria. 5 women, 1staff of Youth, Orphans and Widow Empowerment as well as 2 EWEI staff attended the program.

October Stand Up Take Action

19th September 2010 EWEI observed the 2010 SUTA at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Mercy Hall Kaduna in collaboration with Prime Initiatives. The STAND UP campaign was taken to youth and adults with the message “Make our money work for us” the event also featured the presentation of gifts to the winners in the EWEI STAND UP 2010 competition.EWEI STAND UP competition was a call for poems or art work to depict the theme of the day- Make our Money Work for us. 25 November International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and 16 Days of Activism

16th November 2011 One day capacity building workshop for social welfare officials in Kaduna North Local Government as part of the Know and Say No campaign to strengthen Institutional capacity to address cases of gender based violence. Kaduna North Local Government  Hall. 18 Participants (13 social welfare workers, 1 Legal Practitioner, 4 EWEI staff)
26th November 2012 Exchange Forum for Kaduna North Local Government Social Welfare Workers and Female Legal Practitioners to further build the capacity of social welfare workers on gender issues and how to handle gender based violence in their duties. This forum is a part of a continuing project, Know and Say No which primarily concerned with raising awareness about gender based violence as well as strengthening institutional capacities to address the pandemic of gender based violence FIDA Office Keffi Road by Lagos Street, Kaduna. 14 participants (9 social welfare workers, 1 FIDA personnel, 2 EWEI staff, 1 EWEI Mentor and 1 EWEI volunteer)
